Which pindi vantalu belong to which festival.

Amma's working calendar, written down: what gets made for each Telugu festival, when the festival falls, and where we got it from.

These are lunar dates, so they move every year. Each one is written against the year it belongs to, and panchangams differ by a day often enough that your family's may not agree with ours. Check yours before you plan around it.

We are still going through this list with the founder, so read it as a first draft rather than a settled answer.

  1. బతుకమ్మ, దసరా

    Bathukamma and Dasara

    Bathukamma from 10 to 18 October 2026; Vijayadashami on 20 October 2026

Mahalaya Amavasya through Ashwayuja Shukla Dashami

Telangana's nine days of stacked flowers, closing with Saddula Bathukamma. The offering is set day by day: sesame with rice flour on the first, sesame with butter and jaggery on the eighth, and on the ninth five kinds of mixed rice, with maleeda handed round.

Nothing from our shelf is listed here

Nothing we make is the Bathukamma offering, so this day lists none of our packs. The naivedyam is cooked rice, lentils and maleeda, a different dish each day. Sources also differ on whether Saddula Bathukamma is counted on 18 or 19 October 2026.

  2. అట్ల తద్ది

    Atla Taddi

    28 October 2026

    Ashwayuja Krishna Tadiya

A women's day: fasting from morning, gorintaku on the palms, and atlu eaten once the moon has been seen. Atlu are the dish of the day, and we do not make them.

On our shelf for this day

The pairing to be careful with. The Atla Tadde article names pootarekulu, described there as a sweet of rice flour, jaggery and milk, among the dishes made. What is usually sold as pootharekulu is the Atreyapuram paper sweet, rice starch wrapped around jaggery or sugar with nuts, so the two may not be the same preparation. We are still checking which one is meant.

  3. దీపావళి

    Deepavali

    8 November 2026

    Ashwayuja Krishna Amavasya

Lamps, and a week of frying before them. The box that goes round a Telugu street at Deepavali is mostly savoury, and it is built to last the fortnight.

On our shelf for this day

Sweets go in the box too, but which ones is a house-by-house matter rather than a fixed list, so only the savouries our sources name are listed here. Karapusa is the loosest of them: its source puts it at festivals in general rather than at Deepavali in particular.

  4. నాగుల చవితి

    Nagula Chavithi

    13 November 2026

    Karthika Shukla Chavithi

The fourth day after the Deepavali amavasya, kept for the serpent gods, mostly by women. The naivedyam is short and uncooked: chimmili, chalimidi, vadapappu, panakam, milk and fruit.

On our shelf for this day

Chimmili is sesame and jaggery, which is what nuvvula undalu is; the two names are used for the same sweet. Chalimidi, the other offering of the day, we do not make. Some calendars place Nagula Chavithi on 12 November 2026 instead.

  5. సంక్రాంతి, భోగి

    Sankranti and Bhogi

Bhogi on 14 January 2027, Makara Sankranti on 15 January, Kanuma on 16 January

Set by the sun's entry into Makara rather than by a tithi, which is why it holds the same mid-January dates each year

The harvest festival, and the one almost the whole shelf belongs to. New rice and new jaggery are in the house in January, which is why most of what gets made is rice flour and jaggery.

On our shelf for this day

Which one is central changes by district: sakinalu belong to northern Telangana, and the poornam inside garijelu (kajjikayalu in most of Andhra) is sesame in Telangana, groundnut in Rayalaseema and coconut on the coast. Ariselu is called adhirasam further south, where it is made for Deepavali and Ganesh Chaturthi instead.

  6. ఉగాది

    Ugadi

    7 April 2027

    Chaitra Shukla Padyami

The Telugu new year. The dish of the day is Ugadi pachadi, six tastes in one bowl, and the sweet most houses make beside it is bobbatlu.

Nothing from our shelf is listed here

Nothing we make is an Ugadi dish. The pachadi is made that morning and bobbatlu is a maida dough we do not use. Snacks are shared at Ugadi as at any festival, but we found no source tying a particular pindi vantalu to the day, so this lists none of our packs.

  7. వరలక్ష్మి వ్రతం

    Varalakshmi Vratam

    13 August 2027

The last Friday of Shravana Shukla Paksha, a few days before Shravana Purnima

Kept by women through Shravanam. The naivedyam named in Telugu accounts is all cooked: pulihora, payasam, garelu, boorelu, chakkara pongali, panakam and vadapappu.

Nothing from our shelf is listed here

Every one of those is cooked that morning and eaten warm, and none of them is a pindi vantalu that keeps. Houses add a sweet of their own, but which one is not something we can source, so this lists none of our packs.

  8. వినాయక చవితి

    Vinayaka Chavithi

    3 September 2027

    Bhadrapada Shukla Chavithi

Undrallu, also called kudumulu, is the offering in a Telugu house: rice rava and chana dal steamed into balls, sweet with jaggery and coconut or salted.

Nothing from our shelf is listed here

Undrallu is steamed and eaten the same day, and we do not make it. The date is one of the contested ones: Drik Panchang puts the chaturthi across midday on 3 September 2027, while its own Telugu calendar prints the tithi against 4 September.
